초록 1 학령인구 감소에 따른 대학의 경영환경 악화로 기존의 서열중심의 대학사회도 생존문제에 직면하게 되면서 장기존속을 위한 성장률관리정책에 관심을 가지게 되었다. 그러나 대부분의 성장률관리와 관련된 기존연구에서는 주로 기업과 같은 영리조직에 대해서만 다루고 있을 뿐, 대학과 같은 비영리조직에 대해서는 거의 다루고 있지 않을 뿐만 아니라 다룬다 치더라도 개별적인 경영분석지표에 입각한 비율분석에 치우쳐 있어, 종합적인 경영분석지표에 입각한 연구는 그다지 활발히 이루어지지 않은 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Jegers(2003)의 비영리조직의 지속가능성장률 분석모형을 이용하여 전국 4년제 사립대학의 지역별, 규모별, 크기별 지속가능성장률과 그 결정요인에 대하여 측정한 후, 이를 기초로 집단별 차이분석을 위한 일원분산분석과 독립표본 t검정을, 그리고 주요 결정요인 파악을 위한 다변량회귀분석을 실시하였다.
실증분석 결과, 우리나라 4년제 사립대학의 지속가능성장률은 비수도권대학보다는 수도권 대학이, 대규모대학보다는 소규모대학이 상대적으로 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 지속가능성장률 결정요인에 대한 차이분석에서는 지역별 지속가능성장률 결정요인 중 자산수익률에서만 통계적으로 유의적인 차이를 확보할 수 있었다. 한편, 주요 결정요인 파악을 위한 다변량회귀분석에서는 대체로 예상부호와 일치하는 분석결과를 얻을 수 있었고, 이 중 자산효율성비율과 자산수익률 등이 주요 변수로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 학령인구가 급감하는 2020년대 이후의 고등교육산업의 동향파악과 생존문제에 해법을 마련해야 하는 대학의 경영전략 수립에 시사하는 바가 크다.
초록 2 In the wake of school-age population decrease and university restructuring process, a paradigm for universities has changed from matters of evaluation to matters of survivor. In this paper, We analyze the sustainable growth rate(SGR) of four-year private universities through the SRG model for non-profit organizations developed by Jegers(2003) and find out the managerial strategies that four-year private universities were required to establish the long-term master plan.
According to the empirical analysis results, growth rate was found to be higher for universities located in the capital area than in the non-capital area and for small-scale universities than large-scale universities. The determinant factors of the SGR model were found to be the asset efficiency ratio that represented growth at activity level. Such results of empirical analysis suggest many implications on matters of survival for universities and trend identification in higher education industry after the 2020s when the number of future population in school-age will have decreased sharply.
