초록1 혁신의 중요성이 널리 인식되어짐에 따라 혁신과 기업의 성과를 규명하는 연구들이 주를 이루어 온 것이 사실이다. 이러한 관련 연구에서는 제품 및 공정의 혁신 건수를 이용해서 혁신의 개념을 측정하기도 하고, 때로는 R&D 관련 투자를 혁신의 대리지표로 사용하기도 하였다. 그러나 이러한 대리지표들의 사용은 많은 문제점을 내포하고 있다. 이러한 이유에서 본 연구는 혁신을 Cobb-Douglas 생산함수에서 도출하여 기업의 혁신으로 정의하고, 혁신이 기업의 성장을 유도할 수 있는 지식자산의 존재를 시장에서 인정하고 있음에 근거하여 기업의 혁신과 노동생산성의 관련성 분석을 시도하고자 한다. 1998년부터 2009년까지의 12년 기간 동안, 코스닥에 상장된 국내 중소기업들을 대상으로 본 연구는 기업의 혁신이 노동생산성에 미치는 영향에 대해서 분석하였다. 본 연구는 먼저 오차항의 구조적 문제(이분산 효과와 자기상관성의 가능성)를 처리하였을 때, 다음으로 오차항의 구조적 문제와 기업의 이질성을 고려하여 1차 차분하였을 때, 마지막으로 전년도 노동생산성을 포함하여 오차항의 구조적 문제와 기업의 이질성을 고려하여 1차 차분하였을 때로 나누어 실행되었다. 연구결과는 기업의 혁신이 노동생산성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 보여준다. 실증분석을 통하여, 가속화된 글로벌 환경 하에서 자원의 제약에 한계를 드러내는 국내중소기업은 혁신을 통하여 기업을 지속적으로 성장시켜야 할 것이라는 시사점을 제공한다.
초록2 There have been many studies about the relationship between innovation and firm performance since the importance of innovation have been largely acknowledged. In the related studies, the number of either product innovation, process innovation, or both has been used to measure firm innovation. And R&D expenditure has been also used to measure firm innovation in many studies. However, these variables have many problems in being used as the proxies of firm innovation. Therefore, this study measures each firm's innovation from Cobb- Douglas function. This study investigated the effect of innovation on labor productivity under assumption for firm growth resulted from innovation. Using the Korean small and medium sized firms over the periods 1998 to 2009, this study examined the effect of innovation on labor productivity. In doing empirical works, first, this study considered the structural problems such as heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation of an error term in our empirical model. Next, this study considered both structural problems and firm heterogeneity. Finally, this study added previous year's labor productivity as another determinant in considering both structural problems and firm heterogeneity. Empirical results show firm innovation positively affects labor productivity. This study provides an implication that Korean small and medium sized firms that generally have limited resources can grow through innovation in rapidly changing global business environments.
