초록1 바젤Ⅱ의 시행 이후 대출 LGD(loss-given-default)에 대한 관심이 높아졌다. 하지만 국내에서는 LGD의 수준조차도 이해가 부족한 실정이다. 또한 선행연구들은 채무자 회수제도 및 채무자 속성과 LGD와의 관계를 간과한다. 본 논문은 LGD에 대한 기본적인 이해를 제고하기 위해 LGD의 산업별 특성과 채무자 속성과의 관계를 분석하였다. 분석결과를 요약하면 우선 LGD가 선행연구와 마찬가지로 쌍봉분포를 시현하였다. 차이가 있다면 1 근방에서 가장 높은 최빈치를 갖는다는 점이다. 산업별 중위수로 평가했을 때 건설업의 LGD가 가장 낮았고 경공업이 가장 높았다. 채무기업 속성 및 채무자 속성과 LGD의 관계를 검증한 결과 부실금액, 면담, 채무자 회수제도 중 담보권, 개인파산, 개인워크아웃이 LGD에 유의적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 결과는 LGD예측모형을 구축할 때 회수제도와 채무자 속성 정보가 중요함을 시사한다.
초록2 In recent years, in line with New Basel Capital Accord capital guidelines financial institutions have paid much attention to gauge loss given default-henceforth LGD-that is calculated as one minus the recovery rate. A large body of literature has provided evidences that LGD is positively related to probability of default and largely affected by a variety of factors such as firm-specific and macroeconomic factors. Unfortunately, theoretical or empirical analysis on LGD in Korea are rare to nonexistent. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the distinctive nature of LGD at corporate lending market in Korea. To this end, we examined distributional characteristics of LGD by industry and debtor-specific attributes. The main results of this analysis can be summarized as follows: First, LGD shows a bi-modal distribution with peaks near the ends of the scales. Second, LGD median of construction industry is the lowest and that of light industry is the highest. Third, among the debtor-specific attributes, whether the creditor has the collateral right on the debtor or not seems to be crucial for determining of LGD.
